How to Edit and Alter Sent Messages on Telegram

How to Edit and Alter Sent Messages on Telegram

Editing sent messages on Telegram is not a straightforward process, but there are workarounds to make it possible to edit or delete messages in group chats. Here's a detailed guide on how to alter sent messages on Telegram:

Unfortunately, Telegram does not allow users to edit their messages directly from the application, but there is a loophole that makes it possible to edit messages by removing them first and re-sending them as new messages.

To alter sent messages on Telegram, you'll need to delete the message first, and then re-send the altered message. Here are the steps to do so:

  1. Find the conversation that contains the message you want to edit, and go to that chat.

Click on the message you want to alter. This will bring up an menu with several choices.

On this options, select the "Remove" option. A confirmation will appear to ask if you are sure you want to delete the message.

Tap on "Delete" to confirm, and the message will be deleted from the conversation.

Now that the message is removed, you can re-compose the message with the edits you want to make. If the message you removed was part of a larger conversation, it's a good idea to compose a new message and send it before editing the original message.

Once you have edited the altered message, compose it in the message box at the bottom of the conversation window.

Send the altered message by pressing on the "Send" icon or by tapping the paper plane icon at the bottom right corner of the conversation pane.

The altered message will now be displayed in the chat, and it will appear as a new message.

Note: Deleting a message and re-sending it as a new message does not send a notification to the other users in the group or private chat, but they may notice that the message has been re-sent, so it's best to steer clear of re-sending messages that are completely different from the original one.

Another thing to be aware of is that if you re-send a message that was sent previously, Telegram will automatically change the timestamp of the re-sent message to be the time stamp of when it was re-sent, not the original timestamp. This means that the re-sent message will appear in the chat as being sent recently, not when it was actually sent previously.

Keep in mind that while this method allows you to alter or remove messages on Telegram, it's not a built-in feature for doing so, but it's a workaround to achieve similar outcomes. If you're in a group chat where multiple people are sending messages rapidly, removing and re-sending messages may not be suitable for avoiding distractions, especially if the other group members recognize the deleted message or re-send.
