If you have lost your keys, follow the steps you did (including your coat and trousers pockets). You might need to be prepared to provide evidence of ownership such as a vehicle registration or title.
If your car is recent, it may have a transponder chip or smart key/fob, which requires programming to match the immobiliser system that is in the vehicle. A locksmith in the automotive sector can help.
Keyless Entry
Keyless entry lets you unlock your car and then start it without the need to insert your key into the lock. The system relies on radio signals that emanate by the vehicle. Then, you have a key fob that scans for the signals. When the fob is within the range of the signals, it sends back an encoded code that unlocks the doors, and also disables the vehicle's standard immobiliser system located within the engine control unit (ECU).
Certain systems also include remote ignition features that lets you start your car with the key fob or a button on the dash panel. This feature is a lifesaver when you need to run out and buy groceries, or if the keys are accidentally locked inside.
The most obvious benefit of having a keyless entry system is the convenience. You'll be able to gain access to your car without having search in the dark with your key which can be a hassle if you're carrying a lot of stuff. This system can be used to unlock the trunk and hatch and is a great option if you are hauling a lot of cargo.
If your keyless entry or start does not work, it could be the battery inside your key fob. You can usually find out whether this is the case by checking the back of your key fob. There's the button that you can press to open it. If this doesn't help, you may have to bring your vehicle to a locksmith or a professional dealer to program the keyfob.
Immobiliser
The Immobiliser (or Engine Immobiliser) is an inbuilt anti-theft system that prevents your vehicle from starting if you don't have having a key. It works by matching the digital code on the key or key fob to the unique code that is embedded in your vehicle's ECU. When these codes are in sync, the ECU activates the ignition and fuel system. If the codes don't match the car won't start if the fuel pump or ignition circuit is blocked.
The Immobiliser is effective in preventing most thieves from hot wiring or re-starting your vehicle however, it's not foolproof. The most determined criminals are able to defeat it. It is crucial to take additional security measures such as keeping valuables secure and not putting them inside the car while you're away.
A faraday bag is a further security measure. It blocks the signal between the car's electronic system and the key fob, making it harder for criminals and thieves to copy and intercept the signal. Suzuki's most recent models have a second measure of security which requires that the key be placed near the ignition when it is switched on.
Modern immobilisers are vulnerable to attack by criminals who have advanced skills despite these measures. In one study that was conducted by researcher Jaap Bokslag tried to steal three popular cars and cracked the immobiliser within a matter of minutes using known weaknesses in the system.
Security System
Suzukis are among the most popular vehicles on Australian roads. They come with a factory-installed immobiliser to stop them from being hot-wired. The key contains tiny transponder chips, approximately the size of a PS1 penny, that communicates an exclusive code to the electronic control unit (ECU) of the vehicle. If the ECU does not receive this code when you insert the key into the ignition barrel, the car will not start.
Suzuki dealers installed two different dealer-installed system up to 1996. The first was produced by Advance Security. The original keyfob used for this system featured the suzuki car key shell brand on the front and FCC ID B23AT54 on the back. The original keyfob has been taken off the market, but a 2-button Hellfire remote (also made by Advance Security) is still available and can be ordered at Remotes Unlimited.
After 2000 all new Suzukis come with a factory-installed key lock system. This system has an immobiliser that is built into. The key features an extremely tiny transponder chip beneath a head made of plastic. The chip contains a code that the ECU of the vehicle looks for when the key is put into the ignition barrel. If the chip in the new key isn't compatible with the one in the ECU it won't start. The issue can be quite difficult to resolve but our Auckland auto locksmiths know how to fix it quickly and inexpensively.
Keys
The majority of suzuki wagon r replacement key cars come with keys that have a microchip (transponder chip) inside. It's much smaller than the coin you carry in your pocket. When you insert your key into the barrel of your ignition the ECU in your car reads the code from the chip and if it isn't compatible, it will not start.
